Bronxwood Plants a Tree The Bronxwood Home for the Aged celebrated Earth Day with a Tree Planting Ceremony conducted by the New York Restoration Project at Highbridge Park. Click on the highlighted links below for pictures! |

1. Horticulturist Gregg Kramer began with an introduction of the New York Restoration Project's mission and discussed the accomplishments and future plans of Highbridge Park. He also pointed out the species of the various vegetation in the park as well as their condition and growth patterns. 2. Mr. Charles Friedman recites his poem, "Bronxwood Plants a Tree." 3. Seniors assist the crew with the removal of the wire and burlap covering. 4. It was a group effort to place the tree into the ground. 5. The crew mentions the importance of planting additional ground cover in the wooded area to help prevent erosion. 6. After the tree and small plants were planted they were given a healthy watering. 7. The NYRP generously gifted all of the attendees with tote bags and daisy seed packets. 8. The NYRP crew truly enjoyed our visit and encourages future trips to observe the growth of the sugar gum tree. |

Each summer a theme is selected to give cohesion to the art experience. The theme idea usually relates to a Disney blockbuster movie (ie: Mulan, Tarzan, Atlantis, Dinosaurs and Aladdin) since all of the children see the movie and parents purchase all of the merchandising. In years past we have explored a culture through their art, architecture, artifacts, music, dance and fashion by imitating it in our art projects. This year's focus will be on the Native American Indian as illustrated in Pocohontas.
